In case you missed it, Heritage Ottawa released its new book in December called From Walkup to Highrise: Ottawa’s Historic Apartment Buildings. It’s a wonderful little overview of the development of the apartment building in Ottawa from the early 20th until the latter part of the midcentury. It’s available now and is a mere $20 with free shipping within Canada. If you’re the busy sort with limited time, it’s also compact (80 pages) and a visual delight. It also has a piece contributed by yours truly about the builders of some Centretown apartments in the Great Depression.
