This seems to be as good a time as any to share what I’ve been doing elsewhere. Since I have been employed in Hintonburg for the last month, a larger number of my images and stories have been focused on that end of town.
- Community Spirit at the West End YWCA (Ottawa Start)
A few weeks ago while waiting for a bus at the end of the workday, it struck me that all I knew about this building was the bean dinner. Turns out that it stands for a whole lot more.
- Staying Cool at Armstrong and McCormick (Ottawa Start)
In a similar state of affairs (I was walking home, rather than waiting for a bus), this little jewel box and former home to Twiss & Weber at the end of McCormick on Armstrong caught my eye. Turns out that it was a really cool place to evade taxes.
- Abra & Balharrie put Wesley on a Corner (a history of the World of Maps building) (Ottawa Start)
The World of Maps happens to occupy one of the most distinctive commercial corners in the city and I wondered how it came to be. We now know what happens when a bakery tycoon combines forces with an architectural tour-de-force like Watson Balharrie. Unadulterated midcentury bliss.
